Easy way to Understand Qur’an for Visually Disabled
A jam packed audience of blind students at Aligarh Muslim University attended a workshop titled, “Easy way to Understand Qur’an for Visually Disabled”, on Saturday, 8th November’ 2014 at ‘Cultural Hall, Maulana Azad Library, AMU’ from 3 pm to 5 pm.
The workshop was organised by a student organisation, “Students of AMU” in coordination with ‘Disability Unit, of Aligarh Muslim University. The purpose of the workshop was to reach out to visually challenged students with the Brail script of Primer for Holy Quran and its audio guide. It was for the first time at AMU that blind students were trained to read a Brail script for easy understanding of the glorious Qur’an.
The workshop was conducted by a team of experts associated with “International Union for Brail Qur’an Services, Turkey”. They also distributed a Gift Pack containing ‘Brail Quran Qaida, Brail Primer guidebook and an audio CD’ among students to ensure an easy ‘Home Learning’ of The Glorious Qur’an. A Mumbai based member of IBQS, Qazi Muzamiludeen Nadwi and the mentor of the workshop said that India has millions of blind students who want to read Qur’an, but they are faced with problems in obtaining its Brail scripts. He said that Brail Quran is not being printed in India; however their organisation “International Union for Brail Qur’an Services, Turkey” is working in 13 countries and is ready to help the blind students in understanding the divine message. He requested AMU administration to create a ‘Centre for Brail Quran Services’ at AMU, so that students associated with Ahmadiya Blind School and others benefit from that.
Dr. Fazili, Coordinator Disability Unit, AMU addressed the students on the topic, “Rights of disables in Islam”. He said that Islam gives due rights to disables and able people should respect and guide the deprived citizens. He thanked IBQS for its support to AMU blind students. He called the workshop, the most successful, in his term.
The program was attended by newly elected leaders of AMU Students’ Union. President AMUSU, Abdullah Azaam reiterated his commitments to stand for disables and said that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure proper environment for their academic excellence and extra curricular activism. He said that all students have equal rights and he will struggle for their rights till the last breathe. Vice President AMUSU, Masood ul Hasan appreciated the effort and said that he will strive for a diploma course for easy understanding of Qur’an at AMU.
Coordinator, “Students of AMU”, Wajihudeen welcomed IBQS to AMU and pledged to support all such endeavours in the future for the betterment of students at AMU. He said that “Students of AMU”, is working at AMU since last four years and its creates awakening in the campus on a variety of issues pertaining to students’ community through programs like group discussions, workshops, seminars, conferences, peace marches, signature campaigns, training programs and exhibitions.
All the blind students attending the workshop were provided with a Certificate duly signed by coordinators of Disability Unit and “Students of AMU”.
