The panel of speakers comprising Dr Abdulrahman Ozdemir, Dr Ahmet Murat Ozel, Dr Ilyas Akyuzoglu and Dr Ebu Bekir Sifil, speaking about the concept of disability in the light of the Holy Quran.They gave many examples of blind and disabled people who were successful and treated with respect in the time of the Prophet pbuh and the Khalifahs.
The Second International Conference on Braille Quran was opened today by our distinguished guest Aysenur Islamoglu, Minister of Social Policy at the Centre of Islamic Studies in Istanbul.

Member of IBQS for Malaysia and AlFitrah Foundation at a ceremony to recognize sponsors for Tabung Haji, the Malaysian Pilgrims Fund. For the 2015 Haj season , AlFitrah has produced a Braille version of the Guide to Haj that is given to all Malaysian pilgrims. Other corporate sponsors donate bags, toiletries , SIM cards ,medication and prayer books. We have offered to braillize the prayer books so that the blind pilgrims will also have access to the same reading materials and guides as the sighted . Out of the approximately 22,000 Malaysian pilgrims every year there will be a small number who are visually impaired.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Aljamal of Dar Alquraan AL Kriam had suggested we hold the first ever competition in Gaza for blind people to memorize the Quran. We had expected children and youth to participate but Alhamdulillah many blind senior citizens also came forward after hearing the announcement on the radio.
(The competition was funded by private donations channeled through Viva Palestina Malaysia.)
Al-Fitrah Foundation our member in Malaysia has produced a book of selected surahs in braille , in a size that is easy to carry.
" Alhamdulillah , we have now available a braille book of selected surahs, produced in half A4 size so that it can be carried easily around to the masjid and for travelling. Please contact us if you would like one."

Selahattin Aydin and Dr. Guler Dogan were received by Dr. Tayyar Altikulac at his office. This visit was to present information to Dr. Altikulac about a Unified Quranic Braille code works by IBQS. Dr. Altikulac has welcomed the idea of a unified Quranic Braille code works warmly. Dr. Altikulac is one of the prominent authorities in Mushafs of Early Islamic period.
He also has been studying in proposing a unified Quranic script to be followed by Ummah universally. InshaAllah Dr. Altikulac will be the keynote speaker of the Second International Conference on Braille Quran hosted by IBQS from August 25th to 28th in Istanbul.
Viva Palestina Malaysia through private donors ,are funding, inshaa Allah, a competition this Ramadan run by Dar Alquraan AL Kriam to memorise Surah Al Baqarah for all blind people in the Gaza Strip. This is the first time such a competition has been held for the blind. The first place winner gets USD300, and there will be cash prizes for the top 20 winners. The blind in Gaza have been informed of the competition by announcements on the Radio.

Selahattin AYDIN and Dr. Guler DOGAN were received by Dr Basoglu and presented detailed information about IBQS, as well as ongoing projects of the union. We also have had a chance to discuss about religious needs of the persons with visual impairment.
Alhamdulillah we have gladly noticed that ISAM and IBQS has great potential and desire to carry out joint academic projects in the near future.
ISAM is a research center located in Istanbul and dedicated to support academicians and experts in the field of Quranic Sciences. The center maintains a library with extensive resources in Islamic sciences.
