With our general assembly meeting, IBQS, as the only umbrella organization dedicated to the Braille Quran has passed an important step. Alhamdulillah now there is an international entity willing to promote Braille Quran literacy all around the world. Up to now, each of us had been working very hard to serve for carrying out Braille Quran services at different corners of the world. With the international body we have established, we have paved the way of being different organs of a single body.
In addition to the general assembly, we held 2 events which were open to the public; a forum entitled “People with disabilities from an Islamic perspective”, and "Braille Quran Recitation at Blue Mosque".

The real work starts now!
When I was invited to Istanbul in Feb last year to meet up with people from 13 countries who worked with braille Qurans for the blind, I had not anticipated how much needed to be done to unite blind Muslims worldwide and give them access to the Holy Book. Many blind Muslims, esp those in western countries, are isolated from other blind Muslims.
Alhamdulillah we have worked well together, despite the differnces in languages and culture, with members from Turkey, Iran, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UK, India and Pakistan. Now the Turkish Prime Minister's department has approved the formation of the
International Union of Braille Quran Services
The real work starts now!
Summer camp for blind children Halted
The summer camp for blind children organised by Dar Alquraan AL Kriam with funding through Viva Palestina Malaysia has had to be halted for the first time in 3 years. It was not safe for the blind children to be transported outside their homes, as everyone is a moving target for the drones.
The children had made good progress with memorising the Quran using braille Qurans. One boy Mohamed Jodia had memorised 7 juzuk in less than one month.
Israel has no respect for anyone and anything. They have bombed hospitals, mosques, a school for orphans, relief agencies ( including Salam Society who helps us with food distribution to the poor) and now - the Palestinian Mercy Society for the Disabled, which has killed 3 disabled people and injured many others.

Brother Askar is back in Kazakhstan
Alhamdulillah. I can't say how pleased I am to see my friend Askar Kz Sakhirov teaching the blind in Kazakhstan. We worked with him at the Braille Association of Malaysia , and he learnt braille from scratch, thereafter Quraanic braille, and put together a Kazakh version of our braille Quran primer, with the help of Ustaz Sumairi.
Now Askar has gone back to Kazakhstan and started the first classes in reading the Quran in braille for the blind. May Allah bless him and his mother for their efforts.
The following is his comment from his facebook page.
Assalamu aleikum for everyone! Alhamdulillah, I safely came back to my hometown, and today we started our braille classes with my blind brothers and sisters, they were very happy, because it was first class for them. I want to say thank to my teachers and friends, especialy for my mother and to the Braille Associatin of Malaysia, also to the sister Norma Hashim who support during my study time. I hope insha Allah we will met again in our university soon. Have a nice holiday for all!
