First Braille Quran in Malaysia... 30 years ago
I received a newspaper clipping from the 1980's from brother Yuzaidi Yusoff about a blind person ,Haji Mohammed Noor from Kota Bharu, who was tasked by the Malaysian Religious Affairs Department to transcribe the Holy Quran into braille for the first time in Malaysia . One of the readers who assisted him at the Muslim Women's Board where he carried out this task was Yuzaidi's mother Hajjah Jawahir Abdul Aziz ,a Quran teacher.
The other photo was taken when she visited him 20 years later at Institut Tahfiz Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei where he was working .
Alhamdulillah we have come a long way and we can now produce the braille Quran electronically faster and in large numbers.

The First Tablet for Blind People
Tablets have changed lives of millions of users but blind people can't make the most of them.
Two Austrian engineers have designed a new kind of tablet. With a system of inflatable bubbles, its screen can translate any digital text into braille, allowing 150 million of visually impaired people to read, to be informed and to communicate more easily.
For #ImpactJournalism Day, supported by AXA, this project was selected to gain visibility in newspapers around the world.

Summer camp for blind children Halted
The summer camp for blind children organised by Dar Alquraan AL Kriam with funding through Viva Palestina Malaysia has had to be halted for the first time in 3 years. It was not safe for the blind children to be transported outside their homes, as everyone is a moving target for the drones.
The children had made good progress with memorising the Quran using braille Qurans. One boy Mohamed Jodia had memorised 7 juzuk in less than one month.
Israel has no respect for anyone and anything. They have bombed hospitals, mosques, a school for orphans, relief agencies ( including Salam Society who helps us with food distribution to the poor) and now - the Palestinian Mercy Society for the Disabled, which has killed 3 disabled people and injured many others.

The real work starts now!
When I was invited to Istanbul in Feb last year to meet up with people from 13 countries who worked with braille Qurans for the blind, I had not anticipated how much needed to be done to unite blind Muslims worldwide and give them access to the Holy Book. Many blind Muslims, esp those in western countries, are isolated from other blind Muslims.
Alhamdulillah we have worked well together, despite the differnces in languages and culture, with members from Turkey, Iran, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UK, India and Pakistan. Now the Turkish Prime Minister's department has approved the formation of the
International Union of Braille Quran Services
